FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Former middle school teacher and Fairfield resident Louise Constantinople always hoped to publish a children’s book.

The cancer survivor vowed to find a way to fight the disease even after her recovery.

Constantinople accomplished both of those goals with the publication of “The Adventures of Ralph Ribbit.”

The novel, published earlier this fall, offers what she describes as “a message to children about the importance of family, friends, honoring commitments and perseverance.” A portion of her profits from the book’s sales through Jan. 31, 2013 will go toward Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s work for breast cancer patients.

“The inspiration for donating part of my proceeds from the sale of my book is largely connected to why I chose to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” Constantinople said in a press release. “Because the heart of this foundation is based on the passion and hard work of one woman and her family to find a cure for breast cancer; I wanted to make the heart of my donation to it based on my passion and hard work – my book.”

Komen Connecticut, the organization's local branch, works to help women with breast cancer in Connecticut, by educating them on the importance of early detection, paying for free screening services and providing support to those diagnosed with breast cancer. The group will get $1 from every copy of Constantinople’s book sold before January’s end. Three quarters of that will go to local work, and 25 percent will go to the national organization.

“The Adventures of Ralph Ribbit” is for sale through Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The book is available both as a paperback and as an e-book.
