It was five years ago Dec. 14 that a gunman killed 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.
Former Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra called for kindness to honor those who lost their lives.
“The Town of Fairfield will continue to unite with Newtown and show our community’s strong support and solidarity by encouraging residents to perform acts of kindness,” said First Selectman Mike Tetreau. “In support of our neighbors in Newtown, we encourage the Fairfield community to spread goodwill to one another so that together, we can all make a positive impact.”
The Town of Fairfield suggests the following ways to commemorate the week:
• Donate to the town’s Social Services Holiday Gift Giving Program, which helps Fairfield individuals and families struggling with basic needs, by calling (203) 256-3170 or dropping off gift cards or donations to the Bigelow Center, 100 Mona Terrace. Click here for details.
• Post your Act(s) of Kindness on the Town of Fairfield’s Facebook page.
• Share on the Town’s Facebook page a worthy local organization where you volunteer or donate.
• Spend time with family, friends or neighbors on or around the anniversary date and reflect on making our future better and moving forward toward positive change.
• “Pay It Forward” by performing a random act of kindness to a stranger, neighbor, friend, co-worker or family member.
