FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival returns to the Burr Homestead Friday through Sunday. Volunteers are currently preparing the weekend-long fund-raiser that will benefit two local charities.

The Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival is an annual fund-raiser at the Burr Homestead on the Old Post Road. Local interior designers have decorated each of the historic home’s rooms for the holiday season.

The festival also has added a new feature this year, an online auction. Those interested can sign up to bid on a collection of sports memorabilia, jewelry, electronics, services and other gifts. The auction is live now and will run until Nov. 30.

All profits from the festival will go to two recipients this year. The Cardinal Shehan Center is a community center in Bridgeport that runs athletic, educational and social programs for the area’s children. The Norma F. Phriem Breast Cancer Center is a Bridgeport Hospital program that provides screenings, treatments and care to women throughout the Greater Bridgeport area.

Each day of the festival will also have special events. Thursday evening is “Share a Toast,” a wine and beer tasting party with a meet-and-greet with the festival’s designers. Friday is “Sharing is Caring,” a children’s event featuring a visit from Santa, arts and crafts and a magic show. Saturday night’s event is “A Season We Celebrate,” a gala with food, a silent and live auction and dancing.

Sunday afternoon has two events. “Share a Cup of Tea” is an early-afternoon Christmas tea party. That will be followed by a Quilt Raffle to benefit another local charity, Emerge, Inc., which helps homeless women and children who were victims of domestic violence.

The Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival runs Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. General admission is $5 for kids and senior citizens and $10 for adults. Tickets for all special events are available at the festival website.
