FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Mason Jennings, a senior at Fairfield Ludlowe High School and son of Bridgeport Hospital CEO William Jennings, presented a check for $500 to Bridgeport Hospital’s Norma Pfriem Breast Center to benefit programs for women in need.

Jennings applied for and secured a grant through the Young Donor Advised program of the CT Block Party.

CT Block Party is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate children to recognize neighbors in need in their community. Young people can apply for grants for their charities of choice through the Young Donor Advised program. Jennings completed an application to explain why he wanted the money to go to the center.

He first learned about the Norma Pfriem Breast Center through his sister Sarah, who volunteered for the center’s Catwalk for a Cure fashion show fundraiser for three years. Jennings, who will be freshman at Miami College in Ohio next fall, got involved as a model, team captain and was the designer of last year’s team T-shirt. Their mother, Kristin Jennings, also volunteers for the catwalks.

“Bill and Kristin have taught their kids to think of others and to serve their community,” said Dr. Donna Twist, executive director of the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. “They’ve been wonderful volunteers. Their support helps women who need help paying for their health care. This grant will save lives.”

Part of Bridgeport Hospital and the Yale New Haven Health System, the Norma Pfriem Breast Center provides more than 1,000 women each year with patient services they would not be able to afford on their own. It has served more than 25,000 women and their families since it was established in 1999. One of only 300 sites accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, the crovides a wide range of diagnostic care and treatment at its Bridgeport Hospital and Fairfield locations, including medical oncology, surgical and chemotherapy services, plastic surgery, mammography and radiation therapy, and genetic risk assessment.
