Christine Jewell, who has been an educator and program coordinator at the Museum for more than nine years, received the award at the Connecticut Council for Social Studies annual spring dinner at the Noah Webster House in West Hartford.
The recipient of the prestigious award must be supportive of social studies, have furthered the interests of social studies teaching and/or social studies interests in Connecticut, exhibit conscientious interest and involvement and be a non-teaching professional, dedicated to the promotion of social studies education.
The event included an 18th century-style dinner and the opportunity to explore the Noah Webster House and West Hartford Historical Society.
Jewell, a graduate of Purchase College of Art and Design, is dedicated to developing programs at the museum in the areas of art, education, history and culture. She also presents workshops and professional development seminars for educators using the museum’s exhibits, collections and resources.
Fairfield Museum Executive Director Mike Jehle said the recognition was well deserved. “For nearly a decade, Christine has been at the forefront in building the Fairfield Museum’s award winning programs for students, adults and seniors,'' he said. "She’s a tremendous leader and asset for the Fairfield Museum and the Town of Fairfield.”
