Members of the Fairfield-based Housatonic Model Railroad Club, the Connecticut G-Scalers Club and the Central Connecticut G-Gauagers will be on hand to answer questions and point out details of the collectibles, classic trains, modular dioramas and antique trains.
In addition to the train show, a number of special programs have been planned.
On Friday, Dec. 26, from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m., collector Harvey Campbell will demonstrate his real steam model trains and share his knowledge about these trains. On Mondays, Dec. 22 and 29, and Tuesday, Dec. 30, children ages 6-10 will be able to build their own model trains in a family-friendly, hands-on workshop.
Young train enthusiasts are invited to enjoy Choo Choo storytime where they’ll discover adventures on the tracks with books that spark the imagination.
The train show continues through Sunday, Jan. 4. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for seniors and students; and free for children 5 and younger and museum members. For more information on holiday programs, current exhibitions and more, visit Fairfieldhistory.org. The museum, at 370 Beach Road in Fairfield, will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
The Holiday Express Train Show schedule is on the weekends from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and weekdays through Dec. 23 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Holiday vacation hours starting Wednesday, Dec. 24 through Sunday, Jan. 4, are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., including Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The show will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Choo Choo story times take place on Thursday, Dec. 18; Monday, Dec. 22; Tuesday, Dec. 23; and Friday, Dec. 26 from 10:30 a.m.-11 a.m. The cost is free with admission.
Fun Workshop: Terrific Trains is for children ages 6-10. The cost is $5 per person. Pre-register by calling 203-259-1598. This event is Mondays, Dec. 22 and 29, and Tuesday, Dec. 30 from 11 a.m.-noon or 1-2 p.m.
