FAIRFIELD, Conn. – If you want to help clean up Fairfield's oldest cemetery, be at the Old Burying Ground on Beach Road on Saturday morning with pruning shears and a rake.

The Fairfield Beach Residents Association will begin restoring the historic cemetery at 9 a.m. and its looking for volunteers to help. The first phase of the project will include a cleanup of the grounds and run until noon Saturday.

The Old Burying Ground contains the final resting places of some of Fairfield’s earliest residents, including members of the Burr, Ludlowe and Sturges families.

The association will return to the site in October to begin restoring headstones. Restoration expert Melanie Marks will be on hand to assist. For more information on how you can help, contact the association's president, Paige Herman, at paigepalmer@optonline.net
