Last year a campaign was started by the Friends of the Fairfield Library to refurbish and update the Main Library's Memorial Room to include the addition of panels honoring veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf.
Through the campaign, the Friends sought donors within the community to help offset the costs of the Memorial Room refurbishment. Twenty-two individuals, families and organizations contributed more than $8,000 to fund the project.
Fairfield artist Cynthia Davis and Patrick Ganino dedicated hours of their time and talent to the update of the new room.
“This event was a celebration of Fairfield history, area veterans and the Public Library,” said state Sen. Tony Hwang, a member of the Connecticut General Assembly’s Committee on Veterans Affairs. “It was an honor to take part in the ceremony, to highlight and remember the sacrifices of our veterans, and to commend the Friends for all they do for Fairfield.”
In existence since 2003, the Friends of the Fairfield Public Library is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the partnership between the Fairfield Public Library and the community, and advocating for quality library service for all of the people in the town of Fairfield.
