FAIRFIELD, Conn. - As a part of Fairfield's yearlong celebration of its 375th anniversary, a two-day food drive will be held at the Fairfield Ludlowe High School campus this weekend.

“I encourage every member of our community to join fellow residents at this historic food drive, which is one of the town’s key anniversary events highlighting Fairfield’s long tradition of helping others and spreading our spirited volunteerism that makes our town so unique," Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau said.

Along with canned goods and nonperishable food items, the Food Drive will also be accepting gift cards from Stop & Shop, Shop Rite and Whole Foods as well as other financial donations.

The food collected at the drive will be given to Operation Hope, The Bridgeport Rescue Mission and The Thomas Merton House. Food will also be given to the Fairfield-based A Project From the Heart, a group of local volunteers who send care packages to our troops.

“We’re looking forward to seeing our community come out and work together to support their neighbors in need," said Fairfield Probate Judge Dan Caruso, and chair of the Food Drive. "There are many struggling families here in Fairfield and our  surrounding towns. They may be a friend, neighbor, relative or a stranger.

"They are hungry at home and, through this townwide act of generosity and kindness, may just be able to make it  another day, week, month, keep their home and their families together until things get better.”
