FAIRFIELD, Conn. Are your still hunting for that perfect gift for your kids? With only one shopping day left before Christmas, Fairfields stores will no doubt be packed Saturday.
But what will everyone be buying for their kids? We asked Jaime Oña, owner of Jeddie Toys on the Post Road, to tell us whats popular.
Parents nowadays, theyre trying to get their kids into educational toys more than anything else, he said.
Oña added that classic wooden toys especially puzzles, train sets and other handmade items are selling quickly. Magnetic toys and construction sets have also been big sellers, he says.
He particularly touted the Melissa and Doug toy line, made in nearby Wilton by the titular couple. People in Fairfield like to support their local businesses, Oña said. Everyones been great here so far.
Jeddie Toys opened its doors in August. Oña decided to start the store after 16 years in retail and working out an arrangement with the makers of Melissa and Doug toys to become one of their largest retailers.
Since August, business has been picking up slowly until the past two months, when the holiday shopping season has created the most successful two months so far, he said. In the future, Oña would like the store to become a hangout, a place where kids can come and try the toys first. Which makes sense, because theres plenty of open space in the store right now.
Weve tried to restock, he says, rearranging the items on his shelves. But everythings on back order because its Christmas.
