There was simply too much in Mondays Memorial Day parade for TheDailyFairfields photographer to capture in our own photo gallery . Luckily, the rest of Fairfield has us covered. Readers and local groups sent in pictures of some of their favorite portions of the parade and other ceremonies.
The Connecticut Challenge sent in shots of its float in Mondays parade, which won this years Civic Award. The float for the annual race to raise money for cancer survivor care featured a group of cyclists pedaling their way throughout the race on stationary bikes. One of those cyclists was Naval Officer Paul de Regt, who wears a cap in each years race to honor his good friend Petty Officer Third Class Christopher M. Dickerson, who died while on a humanitarian mission in Iraq in 2004.
Reader Maureen Graney also sent in Memorial Day photos, but her shots came far from Fairfields parade route. Fairfields Boy Scouts Troop 10 held its own services Monday in New York City. The boys visited monuments across Manhattan and Brooklyn on foot. They hiked more than 20 miles to say prayers at 10 monuments from Harlem to Prospect Park. The boys will also make a trip to Gettysburg, Pa., this summer to honor the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.
