Fairfield's Tetreau Joins Efforts To Bring Awareness To Alzheimer's Benefit

The association is partnering with Band Together CT, an organization that “unites a network of talented musicians and artists with local nonprofits to raise funds for families in need of a helping hand.” Jerry Vigorito, one of the band’s co-founders, attended Saturday's event with Fairfield First Select Man Michael Tetreau and nearly two dozen volunteers. 

Grinning from ear to ear, Teterau expressed his thanks for the association’s incredible work and his admiration for the people of Fairfield. 

“When I talk about people coming together to help as a community, this is one of those great moments and a great cause. We all also each have that personal connection,” Tetreau said.

Like many in attendance, Vigorito and Tetreau share a special bond: Tetreau's 93-year-old father is battling the disease, as is Vigorito’s mother. 

The Alzheimer’s Association says more than 5 million Americans are living with the disease, with 72,000 here in Connecticut. 

On March 13, Vigorito and Band Together CT will perform their rendition of the British Invasion at the Fairfield Theater Company, with 100 percent of the profits going to support the Alzheimer's Association.

Band Together CT formed out of a desire to do more with their talents, Vigorito said.

“We got sick of playing in clubs where all you did was sell beer and pizza; we decided there has to be a better way to do this,” he said.

Uniting with artists from other local bands, Vigorito and co-founder Rob Fried have performed to aid charities across the state. March’s concert marks the fourth time Band Together and the Alzheimer's Association have partnered.

Lexi Rodriguez, special events director for the Connecticut chapter of the association, was amazed with the public support for the cause.

“I wanted to get Mr. Tetreau here today because it is so important to let your local leaders know you care about the cause.” 

Vigorito, Tetreau and Rodriguez ended the event by tying of a purple ribbon around a tree outside the Chef’s Table.  As symbol of Alzheimer's support, purple supporting bows will be placed outside many local business in downtown Fairfield.
