Labor Day weekend is often big for those looking to get in one last trip for the summer. But many around Fairfield are choosing instead to stay home, looking forward for a quiet weekend with the family. Parents such as Fairfield's Thomas Poole and Courtney Yanni hope to get one last bit of summer fun with their kids.
"My plans are just to relax, and spend some quality time with my son," Thomas said. His "best bud," Toby, is 13. Thomas says the family will do the usual barbecue, but he also has many other activities planned.
"We'll do some fishing, watch some cartoons," Thomas says. "And he's got a new BB gun, so we'll shoot some targets in the back yard. It'll be fun."
For Courtney, a quiet cookout with her family is in the works. She said she's looking forward to another few days with her kids, who just went back to school this week. Courtney had mixed emotions about that. "I was excited to get the kids back in school," Courtney said. "But then [Thursday] my son started, and I just felt sad."
For some, like another Fairfielder, Monica, this Labor Day will be about the simple pleasureslike a day without work. She also resisted the temptation to travel, opting for a quiet weekend at home.
"I'm just going to spend time with friends, and a few family events," Monica said. "But I am looking forward to the day off, at least."
