Friends, Community Remember Greenwich Girl Who Died In Tubing Accident

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Friends, classmates, community members and even people who had never met her mourned the Greenwich girl who died in a tragic boating accident Wednesday.

Emily Fedorko, 16, would have been a junior this fall at Greenwich High School. She was an honors student and gymnast. She died after becoming entangled in a boat propeller while tubing on Long Island Sound off Greenwich Point Park, police said. 

Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei said the community was shaken by the death.

"This is a profound loss for the Greenwich community. Certainly our hearts go out to the Fedorko family," Tesei said at a press conference held at police headquarters.

Many people turned to social media to express their sadness. Here is a sample of condolences collected from Twitter. 

"Knowing that we were hanging out at this exact time last summer is unbelievable... I'll never understand why the good die so young," said Anthony ‏via Twitter @Anttari.

Others offered prayers and thoughts for her family.

Condolences were offered for the other families connected to the accident.

Many of the Tweets included hearts, hugs, tears, angels and praying hands. 

"This beautiful girl didn't deserve to die, she was so sweet, so full of life, it honestly breaks my heart," said Princess via Twitter ‏@Tu_Cut3xLes. 

"Found out that one of my high school friends passed away. It just makes me feel so empty. She had her whole life ahead of her," said Kyra Colaco ‏via Twitter @kyracola.
