FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Moms In Training, a fitness program that supports the work of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society while helping people get in shape, will begin its second season in Fairfield on Saturday, April 12.
The Kick Off Celebration will be held at 2 p.m. at the Fairfield Library in the Children’s Program Room. The library is at 1080 Old Post Road, Fairfield.
The 10-week-long flexible workout program includes Saturday morning training sessions that culminate in an optional 5K road race in Fairfield. The training sessions will be held at Jennings Beach.
Moms in Training started in 2012 in New York City with 30 moms in Madison Square Park. In the last two years, the program has seen tremendous demand and growth. As of the end of 2013, over 350 moms had participated, raising over $500,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Moms in Training has gained national attention and has expanded to 25 cities across the country and made its debut in Connecticut last fall.
Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $500 for LLS. The organization sets up participants with websites and ideas. The program starts with the participant's own contribution, a $50 registration fee, which counts toward the fundraising.
In return the moms receive training sessions with a certified coach, entry into the race, team jersey, plus social events throughout the season including a family playdate, picnic in the park and moms night out. Strollers are welcome at all workout sessions.
