According to Jessica and Josh Goodman, the town already has approved the project if the community can raise the money. They are trying to raise $5,000. To date, $4,600 has been raised.

For many, Veres Park has become the local playground where very young children love to play. As adults, it’s also been a wonderful place to meet other moms and dads from the community, the Goodmans said.

The idea to add equipment to the park was born two years ago after Josh Goodman's father, Richard Goodman, died unexpectedly from pancreatic cancer. Veres Park was his “happy place” -- "he loved watching my children swing, slide, dig and be carefree," said Jessica Goodman on the GoFundMe page.

To memorialize him, the family decided to donate a bench to the park. However, during the donation process, they quickly realized children had become less interested in frequenting the playground. Most of the play structures were geared toward small children under the age of 5. The older children want to play on monkey bars and other structures they can climb at a more advanced level.

The Goodmans still plan to donate a bench in Richard Goodman's honor, but if they raise enough money, they hope to be able to add additional playground equipment in addition to the monkey bars.
