Join Save The Sound To Tackle Beach Cleanups In Fairfield, Westport

FAIRFIELD, Conn.-- Save the Sound and its volunteers and partners will gather at 17 sites, including Jennings Beach in Fairfield and Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, this weekend for International Coastal Cleanup Day.

Save the Sound will be cleaning up at Jennings Beach in Fairfield on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Jennings Beach is located at 880 S Benson Road.

On Sunday, Save the Sound will be working at Sherwood Island State Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Save the Sound brought together 2,450 volunteers to remove 16,310 pounds of trash from Long Island Sound’s shoreline and Connecticut waterways last year.

The International Coastal Cleanup Day has engaged hundreds of thousands of volunteers from around the world each year to remove trash and debris from beaches, lakes and rivers for more than 25 years. 

Last year, more than 550,000 people picked up more than 10 million pounds of trash along nearly 20,000 miles of coastlines worldwide.
