The public is invited to attend and participate in the free event to talk about stories generated by the hydrants. Call 203-256-3166 to pre-register.

Many people have noticed the fire hydrants in town look like Revolutionary War soldiers. More hydrants were painted when the town celebrated its 375th birthday last year.

The woman behind the ongoing project is local resident Jean Harrison, 81. She originally began painting fire hydrants in 1976 to celebrate the country’s bicentennial.

Every hydrant has its own story and history. The stories are touching, funny and fascinating. Harrison will be joined by local residents to whom the hydrants are meaningful.
