Letter: Vote For Marc Patten For Fairfield Board Of Education

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Send letters to Fairfield@dailyvoice.com.

Fairfield public schools have an excellent reputation, but they face some difficult upcoming issues, where the BOE has to balance the work and time spent on unfunded mandates like teacher evaluations and safe school climate with a tight budget that will be scrutinized by every town body, as well as the community at large.  It is important that the Fairfield Board of Education has members who will be able to step up and face this situation head-on, which is why I am voting for Marc Patten on Nov. 5.

Marc is a current RTM member, a former PTA Executive Board member, a parent and a taxpayer.  He has learned, through his roles as both North Stratfield School’s Board of Education and Budget representatives, as well as his participation as a member of the BoE’s Mission and Goals Policy Review Advisory Committee how the Board works, and he has many great ideas as to how it can move forward and solve the problems that our school system faces today.

He will reach out to the other town bodies, many of whom he has already worked with through his time on the RTM, and he will encourage the Board to communicate more openly with the Fairfield community. As Vice Chair for the past two years of the RTM Senior and Disabled Tax Relief Committee, Marc understands residents’ concerns about affordability, and he will work to adopt a budget that is lean and responsible, but also one that is able to deliver a strong curriculum to our children.

Please join me in supporting Marc Patten for the Fairfield Board of Education.
