FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Tom Houge has taken his travel inspirations and turned them into an app.
The Fairfield resident, who previously founded two tech companies, Fipeo and FacedYou that never quite made it, said it was a semester at sea in spring 2011 that led him to pursue entrepreneurship.
"Conversations with a friend onboard a 377 foot yacht where I was working as a deckhand got me exploring previous ideas from from a fresh perspective," said Houge. The result: "Find," an app designed for the single traveler.
Reaching out to people in a foreign city can be difficult, especially if you don't know where to start, said Houge. "Find helps you find people nearby."
At the very least, it's someone to museum hop with or meet for drinks.
Houge, who recently moved to Connecticut after years in Silicon Valley, has travelled throughout six continents and said, in his experience -- backpacking, studying abroad, doing a semester at sea -- said there is no app that has claimed this space.
"Find" was in development for six months and was officially launched August 28.
So far, so good. Said Houge:"We've had over 41,000 Likes on Facebook and people are downloading the app all over the world and it's going viral in India and the Philippines."
