FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield’s many championship-caliber baseball and softball teams received one more honor Wednesday afternoon. State, local and national officials offered official congratulations to the winning teams from Fairfield American and Fairfield National Little Leagues and Fairfield Little League Girls Softball.

“It seems that each year we recognize more and more kids from more and more teams,” First Selectman Michael Tetreau said.

Four teams were honored Wednesday afternoon before the bi-weekly Board of Selectmen meeting.

The Fairfield American 12-year-old team was congratulated for its New England regional championship and Little League World Series appearance. The Fairfield National 10-year-old team was also honored for its District 2 championship.

On the girls' side, the town’s Junior-level team (ages 12-14) won the Section 1 tournament this summer. Their counterparts in the 12-year-old division were the New England Champions, one win away from their own trip to the World Series.

Each team received a commendation from the Board of Selectmen, a statewide certification from State Reps. Brenda Kupchick and Tony Hwang, and a letter of congratulations sent from U.S. Congressman Jim Himes.
