SOUTHPORT, Conn. – Pallade Musica, a Montreal-based music quartet that won the grand prize at the Early Music America Baroque Performance Competition of 2012, performed at the Pequot Library Concert Hall for an audience of more than 60 people.

The performance on June 13 included music from the pre-Bach era, with Renaissance influences. The instruments included the harpsichord, theorbo (lute), five-string violoncello piccolo and baroque violin. Among the songs were the “Rosary” sonatas of Biber, and the concert was performed in “Disputatio” style.

Violinist Tanya LaPerriere performed The Crucifixion and The Resurrection with skill, and Elinor Frey rendered Bach’s cello suite’s The Sarabande in D Major on the violoncello piccolo. The ending of the program featured sonatas by Schieferlein and Erleback, two lesser-known composers.

Eric Rice, artistic director of the Connecticut Early Music Festival, brought the concert to Fairfield.
