Tierney, Retired Fairfield Secretary, Dies at 91

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Jean P. Tierney, 91, of Fairfield, died March 17 at Bridgeport Hospital.

A Fairfield resident most of her life, Tierney was a retired secretary for the Dictaphone Company

Born Aug. 13, 1920 in Fairfield, she was married to the late Russell Tierney. She was a lifelong active member of First Church Congregational in Fairfield, where she was the first woman to serve as moderator. Tierney also formerly served at the church as a trustee, as well as on the Diaconate and Investment Committee.

As a secretary for Dictaphone Company for more than 47 years, she never missed a single day of work. Until three weeks ago, Tierney worked at First Church Congregational's store, of which she was a founding volunteer.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield. There will be a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at First Church Congregational, followed by interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
