UB Prof Offers Tips For Fairfield Startups

Do you have what it takes to be the next Bill Gates? That’s the question Gad Selig will pose to small business owners at the Fairfield Public Library’s seminar Tuesday night. Selig, associate dean of Business Studies in the University of Bridgeport’s Graduate Studies and Research Division, will teach entrepreneurs the skills and techniques to use to grow their businesses into another Microsoft.

The seminar, “Critical Success Factors for Successful Entrepreneurs,” is the latest in the library’s Small Business Strategies series, which is aimed at Fairfielders who run their own companies or are looking to get one started. Selig will use success stories like Gates, Brazilian aircraft tycoon Ozires Silva and Home Shopping Network mainstay Joy Mangano as examples of how strategic planning, key entrepreneurial personality traits, pre-launch planning, avoiding roadblocks to success and unique selling propositions can make businesses grow.

Selig runs UB’s CTech IncUBator ,  which helps launch and develop high-tech start-ups in Fairfield County. He is also a member of the Academy of Management, Society for Information Management (SIM), Project Management Institute (PMI), the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association and the Connecticut Technology Council.

The seminar begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, in the Rotary Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. The event is free and open to the public, but the library suggests registering online or by calling (203) 256-3160.
