Watermark University Offers Fall Classes To Fairfield Area Seniors

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Watermark University Fall 2014 semester is now under way at the Watermark at 3030 Park, with course catalogs available to senior citizens living in the Greater Bridgeport area.

Watermark University is a continuing education program consisting of a wide variety of classes and events designed to keep seniors’ minds and bodies active. Classes are held at the senior-living community, located at 3030 Park Ave. on the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line.

“At The Watermark, we encourage our residents and guests to explore their passions by offering them more than 70 classes to choose from,” said Tracy-Ann Samuel, community life director at The Watermark at 3030 Park. “From health and fitness, to food, history and entertainment, our goal is to offer something for everyone.”

One new Watermark University class, “The Write Life,” is a series on authors who left a permanent mark on 19th-century English literature, and whose works are still read and beloved today. The course is led by Mona Garcia, a former college professor and librarian at the Fairfield Public Library. Discussions will be held at 2:30 p.m. at The Watermark on Wednesday, Nov. 12, on Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and on Wednesday, Dec. 15, on Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell.

Watermark University also will offer a course on the 10 early signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 2:30 p.m. Tania Paparazzo, South Western director of the Connecticut Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, will lead the discussion and will discuss the early warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease and how to determine when to visit a doctor.

Other class topics include fitness, music, travel and the arts. Most Watermark University classes are free of charge and open to the public by reservation only.
