WESTPORT, Conn. — Everyone loves a good fireworks display, but the traffic snarls that come with them? Not so much.

Westport police are asking the public to stay patient and safe getting to and leaving the annual PAL fireworks at Compo Beach on Monday.

The event will mean heavy car and pedestrian traffic on all roads south of Greens Farms Road between South Compo and Hillspoint roads.

Police ask spectators tp arrive early. The beach will likely be open to ticket holders by 5 p.m.

Pedestrians are asked to walk on sidewalks, not in the roadway going to and from the beach. Police advise pedestrians to wear bright clothing and keep a close eye on children.

Ticket holders may access the beach through South Compo Road only. Hillspoint Road south of Greens Farms Road will be open to residents with homes south of that intersection.

Firework attendees should display their tickets prominently on the dashboard.

Don’t have a ticket?

Vehicles without tickets will not be able to go farther than the Minuteman statue. Shuttle buses will run from Longshore Park by the marina to Compo Beach.

Just prior to the end of the fireworks display two-way traffic will be suspended on Compo Beach Road and South Compo Road to the intersection of Greens Farms Road. There will be two lanes of northbound traffic on these streets until the beach is cleared.

Expect delays at that time.
