FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfields calendar is filled with events of both national and hyperlocal interest this weekend.
Alongside tournaments with competitors from across the country and a visit from a legendary actor, the next three days also feature performances from Fairfield students and a big day for local government.
Heres a few of the major events happening around town this weekend:
Friday, March 23
3-6:30 p.m.: The Webster Bank Arena will host the East Regional bracket of the NCAA Mens Ice Hockey Championships. Union College and Michigan State face off at 3 p.m.. Miami of Ohio and UMass-Lowell follow at 6:30 p.m.. The winners play for a trip to the Frozen Four at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available through the arenas website.
7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.: Fairfield Universitys On the Spot Improv group will perform four shows this weekend at the schools PepsiCo Theater. The students will participate in different shows each night, engaging the audience and thinking on their feet. Tickets are $5 at the door at 1073 North Benson Road.
Saturday, March 24
9:30 a.m.: If you want to tell your town leaders how you feel about Fairfields spending, but cant make it to weekday evening meetings, youll get your chance Saturday. The boards of selectmen and finance will have a joint session specifically to listen to residents concerns on the 2012-2013 budget. The hearing will be at the Fairfield Senior Center, 100 Mona Terrace.
2 p.m.: The Mystic Aquarium will make a trip to Fairfield this weekend to go along with the Fairfield Public Librarys "One Book, One Town" series. At 2 p.m., the aquariums educators will host a trivia game for kids ages 8-13. Then, at 3p.m., Robert Ballard will tell of his work exploring sunken vessels. Both events are free and in the Rotary Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road.
7 p.m.: Honorary Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy-award winning actor Mickey Rooney will speak at Sacred Heart University as part of its "American Legends" series. Rooney will share stories from his decades-long career in show business at the Edgerton Center, 5151 Park Ave. Tickets range from $10 to $25 at the centers website.
Sunday, March 25
1:30 p.m.: Fairfield musician David Coe will present Music from the Titanic as part of the Public Librarys "One Book, One Town" series. Coe will perform popular songs from the early 1900s in the Rotary Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. The event is free.
6 p.m.: The Acting Company will bring a Shakespeare classic to Fairfield Universitys Quick Center for the Arts. The professional troupe presents the famous tragedy of Julius Caesar. Tickets range from $30 to $40 at the theaters box office .
