Her new mantra entails rewriting the company's mission, adding new services, and expanding the company's philanthropy programs, including donating pet oxygen masks to fire departments and supporting area animal rescue groups.
Hill has also created Canine Gives, the company's charitable arm, and established it as an important, ongoing donor to animal rescue organizations like North Shore Animal League America, Danbury Animal Welfare, MSPCA, and Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue. She is also responsible for the company's long-standing relationship with Guiding Eyes for the Blind
The company, she said, serves more than 300,000 pets across New England, New York and New Jersey, something she thinks many people are often surprised to hear.
She also said people mainly think of Canine Company as the Invisible Fence company, though they are "so much more." It's something else she's trying to change. "We like to think we are forward-thinkers and are always aiming to please our customers," she said.
The Wilton mom of two, who's also "mom" to two labrador retrievers, has added services such as obedience training, now available in all their markets, and mobile grooming and pet sitting, which are offered in select markets. She hopes to expand those to other areas in the near future.
Hill's passion for pets forms the basis of all she does. Walk along the Wilton campus and you'll see tons of dogs, the "offspring" of her pet-loving staff who are encouraged to bring their animals to work. "They are our built-in testing team," she said.
Though Hill's parents are retired and now living in Florida, she is ever-conscious of preserving their legacy and ensuring that the family-owned company is ready for the next generation.
For someone who once thought of becoming a veterinarian, Hill said she gets an incredible amount of satisfaction from making the lives of dogs and cats safe and secure -- and for ensuring peace of mind in pet parents.
