FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Only 0.15 percent of United Illuminating Company customers remained without power in Fairfield Wednesday morning, more than a week after Hurricane Sandy brought strong winds, rain and flooding to the area.

An estimated 32 out of 21,876 customers in Fairfield were without power at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, down from 533 Tuesday morning, according to UI reports.

United Illuminating reported a total 239 out of 320,150 customers were still without power as of 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, down from 2,564 outages Tuesday morning.

“While we’re proud of our crews and the progress they’ve made, we’re also aware that there are still many customers waiting for their service to be restored. Many of our own employees also have no power at their homes. We are grateful for our customers’ patience as we recover from one of the most powerful storms ever to strike the region,” said James P. Torgerson, chief executive officer of UIL Holdings.
