Bridgeport Man Sentenced To 20 Months In Drowning Death Of Friend

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A judge sentenced a Bridgeport man to 20 months in jail after the man pleaded guilty in the drowning death of a West Haven man.

Richard “Ricky D” DeCarvalho, 33, of Scofield Avenue, pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide, reckless endangerment and breach of peace, according to the Connecticut Post. Wayne “Little” Bentley, 42, of West Haven died in the September, 2015 incident.

DeCarvalho was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Earl Richards to 30 months, suspended after he serves 20 months and followed by three years’ probation.

In the 2015 incident, Bridgeport Police said they received a call regarding the fight and found Bentley floating in the water behind the bar shortly after officers arrived. 

Bentley, the father of four children and the manager of the family’s store, W&T Variety in West Haven. He was found in Ash Creek behind Chubby’s Bar & Grill in Bridgeport, which sits on the Fairfield/Bridgeport line.
