Value Penguin compiled their data based on a single, 30-year-old male driver and a 65-year-old male driver. Both owned in full a 2010 Toyota Camry that was driven to and from work for a total of approximately 12,000 miles per year.

Costs are based on basic liability protection for the 2010 Toyota Camry and provide about twice the minimum liability required in Connecticut. Value Penguin used rates from major national providers including: AllState, State Farm and GEICO, as well as regional companies such as Middlesex Mutual Auto Insurance.

The average cost for insuring a car in Bridgeport based on these parameters is $2,233 per year, 32 percent above the statewide average of $1,694. Only Hartford was more expensive with an average annual cost of $2,247.

The cheapest city in Connecticut is Mystic with an average annual cost of just $1,484.
