Christopher Dimeo was found guilty Wednesday of the murders of Fairfield jewelry store owners Tim and Kim Donnelly, the Connecticut Post reported. The jury needed only one day of deliberation to find Dimeo guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and robbery.
Dimeo has been on trial since Jan. 18 for the murders. On Feb. 2, 2005, he entered the couples jewelry store on the Post Road and robbed them at gunpoint. He then fired multiple shots at Tim and Kim Donnelly, killing both.
Dimeos defense attorney, Michael Courtney, never contested that his client killed the Fairfield couple. His argument to the jury was that Dimeo panicked during the robbery and did not intend for them to die.
The jury agreed with prosecutor Senior Assistant State's Attorney Joseph Corradino, that Dimeos actions warranted a murder conviction rather than lesser charges. The jury will reconvene at the end of the month to decide whether Dimeo will receive the death penalty.
