Driver Accused of Beating Wife In Fairfield

A Bridgeport man was arrested in Fairfield Tuesday for allegedly beating his wife while driving their car with their two young children in the back seat. Robert Scott, 36, was taken into custody after an off-duty Bridgeport cop saw the incident while driving behind the couple on Jennings Road.

The Bridgeport officer told Fairfield Police he saw Scott repeatedly strike his wife, who was seated in the passenger’s seat. The couple’s 2-year-old and 5-month-old children were in the back seat and the car was moving. During the argument, Scott pulled over and got out of the car. His wife then moved into the driver’s seat and drove away.

When Fairfield Police arrived, they contacted the victim on her cell phone and convinced her to return. Officers said there was a cut on the right side of her neck. The woman gave a statement agreeing with the witness’s report.

Scott was charged with third-degree assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. He was held on $10,000 bond and was due in Bridgeport Superior Court Wednesday morning.
