An El Salvadorian national living in Bridgeport is facing deportation and has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for his role in a cocaine trafficking ring.

John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut announced that 47-year-old Miguel Lara has been sentenced in federal court to 42 months after pleading guilty last November to possession with intent to distribute and the distribution of more than 500 grams of cocaine.

According to court documents, the DEA’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force in Bridgeport launched an investigation into the cocaine activities of Christian Paulino Rodriguez. That investigation led them to Lara, the co-owner of Cafe Luna in Stamford, who was his supplier.

In November 2016, an undercover investigator arranged to purchase five kilograms of cocaine from Rodriguez for a price of $28,000 per kilogram. On Nov. 15 that year, Lara and Rodriguez were arrested when Lara delivered the cocaine to a prearranged location.

Lara has been detained since his arrest. Rodriguez - a citizen of the Dominican Republic - pleaded guilty to the same charge as Lana in July last year. Both face deportation once they are released from prison.
