Fairfield Clean Energy Task Force To Host Workshop

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – First Selectman Mike Tetreau and the Fairfield Clean Energy Task Force are hosting a free workshop in celebration of the town’s 375th anniversary. It will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 17 at Fairfield Woods Branch Public Library, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road.

The event will promote Fairfield Energy Challenge, a community energy efficiency program. The Town of Fairfield, the United Illuminating Company, and the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA, Connecticut’s “Green Bank”) all support the challenge, along with the Town of Fairfield.

Those who attend the workshop can learn more about residential solar energy from Town and Astrum Solar. Home Energy Audits to improve homes' energy efficiency also will be discussed.

The Fairfield Energy Challenge's goal is performing 375 new residential energy audits and installing 100 new solar electricity systems in 2014. According to the Fairfield Clean Energy Task Force, about 10 percent of the town’s homes have had an energy audit. Audits can result in immediate and long-term savings.

As for solar installations, 69 Fairfield homes were switched to solar power through the Fairfield Solarize CT program. Some incentives for “going solar” are a 30 percent federal tax credit and a state rebate of up to $10,000.

Using solar power also creates energy bill savings. Rates of return may be more than 15 percent, and there is a $0 down lease option for purchase of system made to last at least 25 years.

The first 20 customers to sign up for Fairfield Solarize CT will get another $500 discount. For more information or to get a free site evaluation, visit the website at go.astrumsolar.com/Fairfield.

One is Aug. 5 at Fairfield University’s Accelerator and Mentoring Enterprise (FAME), above the Fairfield University Bookstore on Post Road, and another is Sept. 17 at the Board of Education Conference Room.
