Fairfield Hires New Head Of Public Works

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Cheshire Director of Public Works Joseph Michelangelo will take over the same job in Fairfield next month. Michelangelo will replace Fairfield DPW head Rich White, who will retire after 27 years.

Michelangelo, who will take over Sept. 6, has been working in Cheshire for the last 10 years, the last nine as its head of Public Works and as town engineer. Before that he worked in the same departments in Oxford, Monroe and Shelton over a 15-year span. He holds bachelor's degrees in civil engineering and electrical engineering from the University of New Haven and a master's degree in environmental management from Yale University.

“While leaving the Town of Cheshire is difficult, the opportunity to lead the Fairfield Public Works Department is one that I could not pass up,” Michelangelo said in a news release. “The breadth of activities and amount of projects that the Department is involved in is truly remarkable, as is the quality of work.”

White decided to retire from his post earlier this summer. First Selectman Michael Tetreau called White “one of the town’s most productive, professional and hands-on employees.”

“Having participated in the interview process, I am very pleased that Joe Michelangelo was chosen to be my successor,” White said. “He is inheriting a department with very hard working, conscientious, and creative employees.”
