FAIRFIELD, Conn. A Fairfield man was charged with driving while intoxicated after an accident on Old Post Road on Thursday night. David Tanis, 21, of Avalon Court was found to be over the legal limit after slamming into a stone wall, police said.
Residents on the Old Post Road reported a car crashed into a wall about 11 p.m. Thursday. Tanis said he veered off the road while trying to avoid an oncoming car during a turn, according to the police report. He and a passenger were both treated for minor injuries at the scene but declined to be taken to the hospital.
Tanis was asked to take a field sobriety test at the scene and could not perform it, police said. He agreed to a breath test at Police Headquarters and came in over the legal limit, according to the report.
Tanis was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to drive right. He was released after posting $100 bond and is due in court June 11.
