The nonprofit museum offers community educational programming, historical and artistic exhibitions, a research library and cultural events. It was founded in 1903 and provides families in Fairfield County with the opportunity to celebrate a shared heritage and encourages them to become active participants in their community, according to a press release.
Grants and donations to the museum’s operating budget help support its educational programming for the community. Last year, Fairfield Museum welcomed nearly 30,000 visitors, including more than 6,000 students who visited during the school year from towns throughout Fairfield County. Many of these young visitors were participating as part of a curriculum developed specifically to engage with themes represented in museum exhibits, according to a press release.
“This grant will enable us to fulfill our mission of bringing history, culture and arts to the people of Fairfield and the surrounding communities,” Executive Director Mike Jehle said in a press release. “Our programs, exhibitions and events help connect them to the community in which they live. Support from Fairfield County’s Community Foundation is vital to the success of our mission.”
