FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Visitors will soon have a new face greeting them at the Fairfield Senior Center. The town has hired Teresa Giegengack as the new director of human and social services.
Giegengack’s term officially starts March 1. She will replace outgoing director Clare Grace, who will retire at the end of this month.
“While Ms. Grace will be missed by our Senior Center’s patrons and those she served in our Social Services Department, I am very pleased to welcome Ms. Giegengack to fill Ms. Grace’s shoes,” First Selectman Michael Tetreau said. “The town is fortunate that such a qualified and experienced incoming director of Ms. Giegengack’s caliber will help meet the needs of our seniors and oversee our social services division.”
Most of the job consists of running the Fairfield Senior Center’s day-to-day operations. The Human and Social Services Department also manages the town’s other senior citizen-oriented programs, such as counseling, referrals for health care and other services and transportation.
“The Fairfield Senior Center is a very special place for me,” Grace said. “I will never forget all of the wonderful staff and clients who I’ve had the privilege of knowing and serving.”
Fairfield’s government recently discussed splitting the work between two jobs. The Top 10 Committee, which was formed to find the Senior Center’s Top 10 needs, suggested having a Senior Center director as a separate position from human services director. So far no official reorganization has been made.
Giegengack, a Fairfield native, comes to the town’s government from Westport’s Human Services Department. She was most recently Westport’s assistant director of client services, a position she has held since 2001.
“The position as Fairfield’s human and social services director offers a wonderful opportunity to use my experience and to grow professionally,” Geigengack said in a statement. “It is with eager anticipation that I hope to provide an excellent service to the people of Fairfield.”
