Fairfield Officials Celebrate Restaurant Week, Make Committee Appointments

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- As the Fairfield Board of Selectmen held its bimonthly meeting Wednesday, Nov. 5, the four-hour-long meeting encompassed everything from committee appointments to a bonding resolution.

Fairfield, here is your news in brief:

  • The town’s selectmen unanimously approved about $4.56 million in bonding to fund the rebuilding and restoring of Penfield Pavilion on Fairfield Beach Road. The presentation was in three parts and took up the majority of the meeting. It was met with criticisms by the public.
  • Prize winners for the 3rd Annual Restaurant Week were drawn Wednesday. This year’s week-long event set a record with 38 restaurants participating. Prizes included $200 in Fairfield Theater Company Showbucks, two tickets to Fairfield’s 375 Anniversary Gala to be held at Sacred Heart University and a grand prize of a one night's stay deluxe accommodations and dinner for two at Artisan Restaurant valued at $550.
  • Nine new members to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee were appointed and sworn in for the November 2014 to November 2017 term by the Board of Selectmen. Keith Gallinelli, Elizabeth Gardner, Donald Hyman, Linda Lach, Edward Lane, Laura OBrien, William Pollack, Karen Secrist and Robert Tota were all appointed.
  • One other appointment was made Wednesday. Alison Savona was appointed to the Shellfish Committee by Fairfield’s selectmen.
  • The town has posted a new survey to the website’s economic development page. The 12-question survey is for feedback on the 3rd Annual Restaurant Week and can be completed by clicking the link here.
  • Fairfield will be applying for a grant through its museum and historical society. The state grant for $10,000, if received, would be used to do a traffic analysis for the Museum, Old Town Hall and The Burr Mansion. Fairfield’s selectmen are hopeful an analysis of the area will help the town discover ways to improve traffic and parking conditions.
  • First Selectman Michael Tetreau declared Nov. 5 as Martha Lord Day in the Town of Fairfield with a proclamation read at the meeting. The honor was given to Lord for her accomplishments as the former executive director of the Pequot Library in Southport. Lord spoke at the meeting, giving thanks to the board and her supporters and also introduced her successor Heather-Marie Montilla.

The next scheduled meeting date for the Board of Selectmen is Nov. 20.
