FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield police are warning residents and business owners that an organization is soliciting donations for their K-9 Unit. Calls from the “Connecticut Police Work Dog Association” are not authorized by Fairfield police.

Two business owners reported calls from solicitors claiming to be from the Connecticut Police Work Dog Association. In one instance, the caller gave the name Bill Riverton. Fairfield police said Wednesday the organization’s collections do not benefit the police or its K-9 Unit.

Police added a K-9 officer, Ruger, last August. The program is entirely paid for by private donations. Those interested should send donations to the Fairfield police directly. Third parties have not been asked to collect for the program.
