FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield Police believe theyve found a suspect in the string of package thefts in the Southport area of town. Officers plan to make an arrest in the near future and are confident there will be no further package thefts in the neighborhood, according to a press release.
Police received reports of approximately 15 package thefts in Southport from Dec. 7 to 10. In most cases, delivery drivers left the parcels on the front doorstep because the recipients were not home. In each case the packages were gone before the homeowners returned.
Det. Ed Nook took on the case for the Fairfield Police Investigation Division. The case was made a high priority because many of the thefts involved holiday presents. Nook conducted interviews and surveillance in the area and found a suspect.
Nook recently acquired a search warrant and recovered some of the stolen packages from a Southport residence. Formal charges against the suspect are pending.
