FAIRFIELD, Conn. – First Selectman Michael Tetreau has asked Fairfield residents to put off Halloween trick-or-treating for a few more days due to another storm predicted to hit town Wednesday.
A Nor’easter is predicted to bring heavy winds, snow and rain Wednesday and Thursday to Fairfield. Town officials advise residents in flood zones to prepare their houses for more flooding those two days.
The town’s holiday celebrations initially postponed until Wednesday because of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. On Tuesday, Teteau asked put off neighborhood trick-or-treating to Saturday.
The chamber of commerce’s annual "Trick-or-Treat on Safety Street" was canceled because of the hurricane and has not been rescheduled. Instead, the Fairfield police and fire departments, with other town government officials and local businesses, have planned a “trunk-or-treat” at the Fairfield Train Station’s north parking lot from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Officers, firefighters and other employees will hand out candy to kids at the lot.
Anyone who would like to volunteer to help with the program can meet at noon Saturday at the station by the D.A.R.E. car. If you would like to donate candy or decorations to the event in advance, contact officer George Buckmir at gbuckmir@town.fairfield.ct.us
