Fairfield Roads Remain Closed For Nonessential Travel Due To Snow, Wind

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Although Gov. Dan Malloy announced the travel ban was lifted for local roads at his press conference Tuesday morning, Fairfield offices and roads remain closed, according to Fairfield’s Emergency Communications Center.

Plowed Fairfield streets quickly found themselves once again blanked in snow due to high wind guests.

Snow continues to swirl in the town of Fairfield as of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with winds kicking up plowed snow and quickly recovering streets.

Streets that remain covered in snow are slippery and should be navigated with caution, the town said.

“Travel bans remain in effect… unless you have an emergency or have to travel for work, in which case you have to do what you have to do,” an ECC spokesman said.

A total of about 6 inches fell overnight in town, and the roads don't look good. Viability is poor, and it's disorienting to walk in if you're going against the wind and snow.

Light snow will remain in the area for the morning with an additional 2 to 4 inches possible in some parts of Fairfield County. Wind gusts of up to 36 mph will continue to create visibility problems. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday with blowing snow. Temperatures will remain in the low 20s.
