FAIRFIELD, Conn. A Fairfield woman was charged with assaulting two police officers during an arrest early Sunday morning.
Holly Bittman, 38, of Mona Terrace, allegedly kicked and spit on the officers during an investigation into a hit-and-run accident, police said.
A witness called Fairfield Police to report his car had been struck while driving in Fairfield late Saturday night, police said. He told the operator he followed the other driver to an address on Mona Terrace, police said. The woman then got out of her car and began banging on the hood of the callers vehicle, police said. The 911 operator later confirmed she could hear the commotion over the phone, police said.
When police arrived, they said they found Bittman arguing with the other driver. According to police reports, she appeared intoxicated, allegedly slurred her speech and appeared to have difficulty standing up. She told officers to leave, but also invited one inside for a drink, police said.
Officers tried to place Bittman under arrest, but she pulled away several times according to the report. Once inside the police car, she allegedly began banging on the vehicles window. When officers opened the door again, she kicked two officers in the chest with heeled boots and spit on them, police said.
Bittman was charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer, interfering with police, breach of peace and evading responsibility. Her bond was initially set at $2,500, but she was later released on a promise to appear in court March 14.
