FAIRFIELD, Conn. ? If you haven't gotten around to raking your leaves yet, this weekend is a good time to start in Fairfield. The town of Fairfield will begin its annual roadside leaf collection on Monday. Trucks will visit all neighborhoods except Greenfield Hill until the week of Dec. 5 to collect bagged leaves.
There is no set collection schedule, so the town recommends placing bags at the curb each Monday by 6 a.m. to ensue pickup that week. The trucks will accept unsealed, biodegradable paper bags with leaves. Residents should place bags along the town right-of-way (not along driveways or inside fences) so they can be picked up.
Greenfield Hill residents should call the Town Garage at 203-256-3117 on Nov. 21 to schedule a pickup before Thanksgiving. They can also schedule one additional pickup after the holiday.
Town officials also want to remind residents not to blow leaves into the street. The town will not collect loose leaves. And leaves in the street may clog sewer basins, causing flooding. They also ask residents to check catch basins periodically to make sure they are not blocked.
