Democrats Tara Cook-Littman, of Stella Lane, and John Mitola, of Surrey Lane, will fill two seats being vacated by Kenneth Brachfeld and Catherine Albin.

Both Brachfeld and Albin resigned from their positions on the Board of Finance.

Before coming to a unanimous vote, Fairfield’s selectmen offered their comments to the members of one of the powerful committee. It will be tasked in January to either approve or deny funding for the Penfield Pavilion rebuilding project.

“The board of finance over the years… has been a board that has always been the epitome of good government,” said Selectman Kevin Kiley, a former chair to the Board of Finance. “The members of that board are always doing things in the best interest of the town.

"You can never tell who the Republicans are and who the Democrats are.”

First Selectman Michael Tetreau told the public that Cook-Littman and Mitola's appointments are an example of the balance the town looks for when making appointments. He said he is confident in the range of experience Mitola brings to the table as a resident who has served on other boards in the past, and he credited Cook-Littman for her experience on the state level.

Despite their qualifications, Selectman Cristin McCarthy Vahey took a moment to remind the public about the difficulty of this particular position, and to thank the new appointees for taking on the responsibility.

“I’m an ‘RTM-er’ at heart and I agree with Mr. Kiley,” McCarthy Vahey said. “Serving on the Board of Finance is a tough job, and we are grateful to have you.”
