Items valued at around $2,000 were reported stolen from the Sky Hookah Lounge on Kings Highway. The burglary occurred sometime between 2 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday. The items included a 42-inch television, a laptop computer and a music mixer. Two men apparently entered the lounge by breaking in through a back door, police said.
Jon Gertz, 48, was arrested for misuse of the emergency 911 system after he police said he called five times to falsely report that a woman had been raped. When police responded to his location, he was found sleeping in a car behind the Fairfield Motor Inn, apparently under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Police are testing several baggies that contained a white residue of a powered substance found in the car. Gertz is accused of telling police he was "out of It" and did not have an emergency. When police arrived, he had already erased the calls from his phone and turned it off, thinking that would make him untraceable, police said. Gertz was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport and released with a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on July 28.
