Hazy, Hot, Humid Conditions Bring Air Quality Alert To Fairfield

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The first real taste of summer will remain in Fairfield County through the middle of the week as high humidity and hot temperatures will dominate the forecast through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday will be partly sunny with a high of about 84 degrees. Scattered showers and thunderstorms could roll through the area after 2 a.m. The chance of rain is 30 percent.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued an air quality alert for Tuesday due to the hot, hazy and humid conditions.

Residents are urged to drive less and limit the use of gas-powered machinery because of elevated levels of ozone, DEEP said.

There is an increasing likelihood of respiratory symptoms and breathing discomfort in active children and adults with respiratory disease, such as asthma, due to the weather conditions, DEEP said. Children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion, DEEP said.

Wednesday will be partly sunny with a 30 percent chance of rain after 10 a.m. High temperature will reach 90 degrees.

Morning clouds will give way to afternoon sun on Thursday, with a high of 85.

Temperatures will cool a bit on Friday with a high of 77 degrees.
