The Fairfield Bike and Pedestrian Safety Plan Advisory Committee has developed a plan to make Fairfield’s roads safer for pedestrians and bike riders. One of the first parts of the plan is to focus on the streetscape near the Fairfield Metro train station and extending it to Kings Highway and Commerce Drive.

The proposed renovations include repairing damaged sections of sidewalks, improving a center median and installing new crosswalks and crossing signals. The committee will describe the improvements in full at the public hearing.

The purpose of the meeting is to gauge the amount of interest the town’s residents have in the improvements. The project could be partially paid for through a federal grant but would require some contribution from the town to complete. The total cost of the renovations is estimated at $1.2 million.

The public hearing will take place Thursday, June 27, at 7 p.m. in the Board of Education’s conference room, on the second floor of 501 Kings Highway E.
